It’s been a big deal to add another genre to our repertoire beyond picture books. Although we’ve never stopped writing, this is why we’ve been quiet for a long while! There’s been much to learn.
We have attended a Curtis Brown course and a Writing for Children course at City Lit, where we befriended like-minded writers with whom we formed a weekly writers’ group. We are members of Jericho Writers and also follow Reedsy and Golden Egg events – slowly becoming better Middle Grade writers.
We now feel ready to share our first Middle Grade novel with two others to follow. All have the same protagonist: Freddy Lyre (11) who lives with his two dads. He and his best mate – Barnaby Andrews – get into some real Situations but their friendship together with Freddy’s dyslexic ‘super powers’ see them through.
We know a lot about dyslexia professionally and it felt right to champion the dyslexic child and acknowledge possible anxieties and feelings of under achievement alongside dyslexic ‘super powers’.
The first of the series:
The Billion Dollar Parcel
is currently being supported by Cornerstones Literary Consultancy, so we have everything crossed that it will be in bookshops in the near future!
